A planned but spontaneous trip!! part 4
2010-01-23
Its been 3 weeks in Hungary already!!! I never really thought I would make it this far in a cold winter with lots of snow. The temperature has been averaging about 0degrees I am sure, some days its about 2 degrees and some days -2 degrees. It seems to be getting colder but this doesnt matter now as I will be going to Austria where it will be minus double digits... did I say minus double digits!! I am sure up in the mountains it will be that temperature. This will be the first time for me in these temperatures, but it is a trip of first times so bring it on!! Budapest is Beautiful... There are advantages to having the sun disappear at about 16:20 everyday, it meant that we got to experience the beautiful lights in Budapest while driving back from training along the Danube. The castle stands out and the bridge is outlined with lights as well, the Citadella also stands tall, but now it looks down on a mountain covered in snow!! It really is a pretty site, Budapest by night. I have only seen it in summer and winter is no different actually, unless of course you are a chinese tourist taking photos then your hands will get cold. I have been reminded that my small Hungarian vocabulary is rusty as I have not been so sharp understanding the numbers during the swimming sessions, I was better in July during the paddling sessions! But luckily the Hungarians say Hello when they say goodbye so I understand that still at least, so its hello when I arrive and its Hello when I leave as well, less greetings to remember:) Usually an unexpected knock on the door is really exciting as you are getting a visitor, well for me it was the other way around as I got someone knocking on my door a few times this last week, I actually got scared. I guess they may of been wanting some money but I was too scared to even open the door. Then I laughed at myself afterwards as I am from Africa and there are worse things going on back home to make one scared. But Back home its DUSI FEVER and its over 30 degrees, tomorrow will be day 3 and the last day of the Dusi canoe marathon ending at the blue lagoon in Durban. This year it was predicted to be a one horse race, but it seems to be more exciting with first and second place finishing day two with only one second separating them. This is the crew of Ant stott and Michael Mbanjwa, only one second ahead of Andrew Birkett and Jason Graham. While everyone waits in anticipation at the finish line in Durban wearing bikinis tomorrow, I will be wearing a lot more clothes than just a bikini, as I am on my way to Austria to go Skiing as part of my last week of winter training! snow snow snow snow snow
