A planned but spontaneous trip!! part 3

2010-01-10

Training camp in HUNGARY!
Leaving Slovenia was easy, but my flight from Frankfurt to Budapest had another huge delay as there was so much snow! I really seem to have chosen the bad weather days to travel!
Day one in Hungary in the winter!
I have only been in Hungary in the hot summer so winter is very different. I was lucky to spend my first day back in Hungary with lots of sun. It reminded me of being in Pretoria in the winter except there, the day warms up more and the sun didnt warm us up at all here. I am happy to be back in Hungary(its almost my home away from home now) training is good in a group as I can push myself more in this environment and at the same time have no other distractions.
There was no easing into the new years training schedule, running on day one, I thought I would get lost running in the trees on the island, but luckily I chose the correct path and the guys turned and came back the same way! There are not so many light weights in the gym in Hungary so it seems to be go big or go home! We did some running on a track, this was really nice for a change as you can pace yourself and try go faster each lap! Swimming in an indoor pool again, I have not done swimming training in an indoor pool for at least two years now, so I really am getting so many different training experiences, and its a 25m pool not a 50m pool, which is great.
More snow started falling and by Wednesday it was already quite thick so we played a soccer game in the snow, this was lots of fun trying to chase a slippery ball and not fall over as well as trying to tackle the guys for the ball! However it reminded me that I have different muscles in my legs again. Then we paddled inside paddling tanks, K3 boats all in a row! I have only seen these with no water inside during the summer, so now I can train in them too! Its a lot more controlled as you are not moving and the water creates a big resistance. I think its good to get a controlled stroke through the water. Some more swimming and gym and running and paddling in the tanks and then the lovely hill on Saturday morning. On training camp in SA we run up a hill in port edward which is steep but its up and down so its good. I was told we are running up a hill and the guys take about 30minutes, so I thought thats cool up and down 30minutes is not so bad.... Until I arrived and realised it was uphill then up stairs and then a constant incline for what took me 40 minutes! My running is going to improve for sure and when I get to those ski slopes anyone infront of me better watch out!!
The rain has melted all the snow so its not white anymore... I spent my day off relaxing and we went to a sauna and then jumped into an ice bath, it leaves you with a really good feeling afterwards.
One week down and two to go, then one week of skiing in Asutria then its back to Summer in sunny South Africa!
